What is The Difference Between a Business Broker and an Investment Banker?

Many people ask what the difference is between an Investment Banker and a Business Broker?

Generally, an investment banker is working on large transactions such as raising $100mm for a company to continue to expand, or selling a large company with $200mm in revenues.

Investment banks include Goldman Sachs, Raymond James, SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. If Facebook goes public, you will see some of these names as their investment banker.

Business brokers typically just sell the assets of companies that are on average about $230,000. So business brokers handle much smaller transactions than investment bankers.

There are about 1000 Florida business brokers as compared to a much smaller number of investment banks in Florida including Raymond James.
